Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has announced that the government has allocated Sh49 billion to connect homes with electricity.

Speaking in Bomet on Saturday, the President said the government is committed to completing the last mile connectivity that stalled.

The President said that in Bomet alone, the government will spend sh1 billion to light up homes with electricity this year.

“We have Sh49 billion to connect homes to electricity across the country,” the president said.

He said that although the programme had stalled due to financial constraints, the government is now ready to take power to every village across the country.

“No village will be left without electricity. We want to light up every home so that we make life easier for Kenyans,” President Ruto added.

Politicians have in the past complained that their electorate has been impatient with the delays in the connection with electricity across the country.

However, the president assured Kenyans that his administration will leave no part of the country in darkness as part of the programme to spur growth at the grassroots.

He said power close to villages will give artisans and traders access to low production costs so that they can make more money.

“Those who were going to Bomet town will now relocate to this village because we now have power here,” he said.

The president also announced that the government has a clear plan on how to deal with power interruptions in the South Rift in the coming months.

He said the government is constructing a new power line from Narok to Bomet so that it connects with the power lines from South Nyanza at Sotik.

“That way, we shall end the power blackouts that are affecting this region. We want that work complete by the end of the year,” he said.

The president is on a tour of the South Rift region, declaring that his administration is now ready to roll out development projects after stabilising the economy.

“This is is the year we have been waiting for so that we can start development projects including those that had stalled,” he said on Saturday in Bomet.

Ruto said the shilling has stabilised against the dollar, the cost of fuel has come down and the price of maize reduced drastically as part of the government’s strategy to address the cost of living.
