Africa-Press – Kenya. Ugenya constituency is squarely in ODM and pays homage to Raila Odinga only, a section of constituents said on Saturday.
They remarks were made after area MP-elect David Ochieng ditched Azimio La Umoja and joined President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
“We are the people of Ugenya and there is nothing we are going to do in Sugoi (Ruto’s hometown). Ochieng’ lied to the people of Ugenya who voted for him,” said Ugenya ODM Chair Stephen Omondi.
The angry residents endured the heavy downpour and stormed Sega town on Saturday evening, vandalizing the Ugenya NG-CDF Office, roadside signage and vehicle.
They decried Ochieng’s move saying that he is a conman and a betrayer because they only voted for him as a member of Azimio, not Kenya Kwanza.
Ochieng was elected on the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) platform, his own party; and not the area’s dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
“The people of Ugenya voted for Raila and we do not, in any way, recognize or associate with one William Ruto,” said North Ugenya MCA-elect Ben Adala.
East Ugenya MCA Fredrick Omoro expressed his faith, saying that the much-awaited Supreme Court verdict will be in favour of Raila.
As such, he maintained that Ugenya has nothing to do with Ruto.
Ochieng ought to have vied under Kenya Kwanza instead of conning the people, said former MCA Fredrick Opang’a.
“You came into Azimio through a backdoor and now you have conned the people. If you knew you were man enough you would have vied on a Kenya Kwanza platform,” said Opang’a.
Ukwala MCA Peter Omondi also joined the protest.
On Friday, Ochieng’ and other members of MDG Party visited Ruto in Karen, Nairobi, where Ochieng said that MDG members had found new friendship in Kenya Kwanza.
Raila, during the campaigns, endorsed ODM candidate Daniel Odhiambo, saying that the latter is “his only person”.
Raila also de-campaigned other MDG candidates who were vying for other seats like senator and Woman MP seats.
This unfair competition where the father loves one child more than another made MDG members to question its place in Azimio, which it had signed a pact with.
