Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said business entities will now have it easy when looking for licenses as the service will be taken online.

He also said licences will be consolidated and the current multiple licenses done away with.

“You go to an office and you cannot tell the original colour of the wall because of the number of licenses hanging on the wall.

Isn’t that the situation that must come to an end?” he posed.

Gachagua said the process will be moved online so that business people don’t have to queue for hours to process licenses.

“We must make it easy through the online platform, you don’t have to go to any county government office to look for a license.

These are things that we must do very quickly and collapse this licenses into one that makes sense,” he said.

The DP was speaking on Friday at Movenpick Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi during the Humanitarian Initiative 2022 which is aimed at helping Kenyans who are affected by drought.

In September 2020, business owners raised concerns over the multiple licenses they have to acquire to run businesses saying this was hindering business growth.

A survey in the retail sector showed that one needs between 18 to 25 licenses to open a supermarket in Kenya,

The findings, according to the Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK) raised questions over the country’s commitment to ease the cost of doing business.

RETRAK’s survey indicated that businesses require at least 18 different approvals to operate in an already tough environment.

The licenses cut across different state agencies and county governments.
