Africa-Press – Kenya. Isiolo Women Representative Mumina Bonaya has said that the State needs to learn how to work with the local community.
Bonaya said that community collaboration is a key element that the government needs to make use of.
“Collaboration from the community is a very key element that we must embrace and make use of,” she said in an interview on Citizen TV.
The women rep on Wednesday urged the government to build a rapport with the people since they could be very useful in the fight against al Shabaab.
“State should not terrorise the community since if you want them to provide intelligence and information, you must work well with them,” Bonaya said.
She encouraged the government to actively involve people in the fight against terror, saying that one of the reasons al shabaab militants continue to reign terror is because they tend to have informants.
She further said collaborators who work with terrorists can be easily converted to state collaborators to provide information since it all depends on how the state will relate and work with the people.
Bonaya emphasised the need to strike a balance that allows people to work together with security agencies not to give way to terror groups.
