Africa-Press – Kenya. Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala now says the world is yet to see his best. He reiterated his pledge to lower his record at the Absa Kip Keino Classic 100 metres.
In 2022, he won the race at 9.85 seconds. “The focus now shifts to the biggest athletics event in Kenya this year. You think you have seen me run fast??? No, you haven’t,” he tweeted on Monday.
He welcomed Kenyans to the event which will be held at the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani on Saturday, May 13. “Come and watch it live on the stands. Don’t watch it on TV. Come watch it live and I promise a show…Come to Kasarani stadium this weekend and see what fast means. Entry is free!!” he added.
This comes a day after Omanyala set new African and State records in Men’s 150m at the Atlanta City Games in Georgia, USA. The athlete clocked a personal best of 14.89 seconds after finishing the race in third place.
Leading was Noah Lyles at 14.56 seconds and Erriyon Knighton who finished in the second position in 14.85. Among those attending the Kip Keino Classic are 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Aaron Brown and Jamaican female sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce among others.
On Friday, organizers announced that 204 international athletes will join 68 athletes from Kenya at the Challenge Tour event. This is aimed at giving the athletes a chance to qualify for the forthcoming World Championships in Budapest this summer.
