AfricaPress-Kenya: The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) on Sunday, February 28, announced major changes in their ranking in order to ensure efficiency in their service operations.
Lieutenant Colonel Meshack Kishoiyan has been appointed as the new commander of the multiagency operation in Boni forest, Lamu County.
He takes over from Colonel David Chesire who previously held the Command of Operation Amani Boni since July 2019.
Kishoiyan is a former Chief Instructor and current Deputy Commander in Recruits Training School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. Recently, the commander was involved in the KDF recruitment process as a trainer.
Kishoiyan detailed that it takes courage and determination in order to survive the whole exercise.
“The skill sets that we impart in them include both defensive and offensive to ensure that we give them the ability to protect themselves from the enemy.
“We believe that our soldiers, man to man and woman to woman, are the best,” Kishoiyan noted.
Further, the colonel was in charge of the infantry battalion in Kismayo – a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia.
Kishoiyan, along with Kenyan troops, joined forces with the Somalia army in order to curtail the militia group Al Shabaab.
The KDF has been looking to strengthen their force by making major changes as well as adding recruits targeting various groups such as General Service Unit (GSU) cadets, specialist officers, general duty recruits, tradesmen/women, and constables.
This has seen the military body conduct nationwide mass recruitment in a bid to select the cream of the crop from thousands of entries.
