Africa-Press – Lesotho. The African Development Bank (AfDB) Officials who are currently in the country have paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Development

Planning on Monday. The objective of the visit as stipulated by the Head of the Mission, who is also the Senior Advisor to the Executive Director representing Belgium, France and Spain Hon Denis

Dubuisson, is to engage the country and get to know the challenges it faces. Hon Dubuisson explained that they are currently visiting member countries in

effort to hear their challenges, how best to overcome them, and a way forward in terms of support. Sharing what is going on in Lesotho economically, the Ministry of Finance Principal Secretary

(PS) Nthoateng Lebona said the country is trying to recover from Covid-19 and

since Lesotho is in the midst of South Africa (SA), whatever hits SA, Lesotho feels the heat too. Lebona also indicated that the country has been hit hard by

the floods and climate shocks which have also affected the economy of the country. Moreover, she expressed hope that the AfDB will support Lesotho in responding to these challenges.

Hon Lebona further expressed gratitude to AfDB for its unwavering support to Lesotho through various projects, and also urged for its support in Private

Sector Development. She pointed out that this year’s budget puts more emphasis on the Private Sector Development. In a nutshell, she revealed that Lesotho has requested AfDB to have an office (branch like) in

Lesotho. The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is a multilateral development finance institution headquartered in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, since September 2014.

The African Development Bank is a financial provider to African governments and private companies investing in the regional member countries. Its mission is to fight

poverty and improve living conditions on the continent through promoting the investment of public and private capital in projects and programs that are likely to contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
