Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Mountain Kingdom is set to host the 2020 December African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Under 20 Youth Games. After the Late Honorable Minister of Gender Youth Sports and Recreation, Hon Kabelo Mafura last year signed a pledge that Lesotho is ready to host the games, the step was to select the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) before end of March this year.
Meanwhile, the Ausc Region 5 Regional Organizing Committee (ROC) was in the country to inaugurate the Lesotho 2020 LOC after it was appointed. The Regional Organizing Committee is said to have arrived in the country on the 3rd July and left on Saturday.
LOC induction opening ceremony was held in Maseru last week Thursday. Lesotho LOC Ausc 2020 games are led by Mr Fusi Notoane. Speaking at the ceremony, Notoane reassured that the team is ready and committed to make the games a success.
According to Notoane, they have been warned that it is not going to be an easy task to organize such games however he promised that they will not disappoint the country after they have entrusted them to execute such big responsibility.
On the other hand, ROC chairperson Mr George Jana mentioned that ROC is happy with Lesotho’s determination to host the games successfully and he gave credit to Lesotho for abiding to the Region 5 guidelines by accepting to host the games when it is their turn.
Jana added that it is the region’s intension to host life interchanging games for the youth. He also promised that the region is ready to give full support to Lesotho.
The Minister of Gender, Youth Sports and Recreation Dr Mahali Phamotse re-affirmed that Lesotho is looking forward to host the games successfully. She reminded the LOC that the success of the event will only come from well-developed plans.
The LOC inductions follows AUSC Region 5 Special Council ministers meeting (sports ministers of Angola, Botswana, Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) in Gaborone Botswana. It was during this meeting that Lesotho updated the council on its preparedness in hosting 2020 games through Phamotse who was part of the meeting.
