Africa-Press – Lesotho. Vodacom Premier League champions Bantu say they will take disciplinary action against a fan who was seen urinating in the goalposts Matlama were about to attack in the second half of Sunday’s encounter between the two teams.
Matlama were leading 1-0 at halftime through Lerotholi Zwane’s goal at Setsoto Stadium. As both teams were in the dressing rooms during the break a man sporting Bantu regalia was seen relieving himself in the goals Matlama were going to attack when the two teams returned for the second half.
Immediately, a commotion ensued as Matlama fans who were sitting behind the goal booed and went onto the field to confront the man. The fan was whisked away by Bantu marshals but the drama lasted for about five minutes.
While some Bantu fans dismissed it as mind games, it was clear Matlama were not impressed by the behaviour. However, whatever the fan hoped for did not work as Jane Thabantšo scored a second goal to round off ‘Tse Putsoa’s perfect Sunday.
On Monday, the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) appealed to Bantu to take action against the individual and on Tuesday Bantu released an official statement condemning the bad behaviour of the supporter and the club also apologised to the league.
The club said such actions tarnish the dignity of the club and football as a whole. “The management of the club hereby denounces (the) behaviour demonstrated by one of the fans on Matlama FC goalposts during halftime in the previous encounter,” Bantu’s statement read.
“Such contemptuous actions tarnish the dignity of the club and football family as a whole.
While disciplinary actions are imminent against whoever is responsible for this, the club wishes to humbly express its apology to LEFA (Lesotho Football Association), PLMC (Premier League Management Committee), Vodacom as the league sponsor, the club’s sponsors, Matlama FC, supporters and other stakeholders affected by that irksome action,” Bantu said.
Bantu have refused to say what sort of punishment will be handed down on the individual, but the team insisted he is known to the club. Meanwhile, Bantu are preparing to face Sefothafotha today in a league match and are hoping to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointment.
