Africa-Press – Lesotho. The decision was confirmed on Sunday at the Giza Palace Hotel, as stated by the Commission.
This marks a big success for Nigerian sports management and is the first time in more than 70 years that a Nigerian has taken on such an important role in African football.
In a statement released on Sunday, signed by the NSC’s Director of Press, Kehinde Ajayi, the Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, called the appointment a proud moment for Nigeria and a sign of the country’s growing influence in global sports leadership.
“This is a historic moment not only for Samson Adamu, but for Nigeria as a whole.
His strong record within CAF is impressive, and we are confident he will bring excellence, honesty, and smart leadership to this new position.
Nigerians fully support him and believe he will represent both the country and the continent with pride,” Dikko said.
The Director General of the Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the appointment as both deserved and timely.
“Samson Adamu has shown strong capability, professionalism, and deep knowledge of football management at the highest level.
“His rise to Acting Secretary General of CAF shows his skills and dedication.
“We are confident he will build on past successes and improve the management of African football,” Hon. Olopade said.
Samson Adamu, the son of respected sports leader Dr. Amos Adamu, is taking on this role after Veron Mosengo-Omba resigned.
He brings a lot of experience, having previously worked as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he earned respect for his creative ideas, teamwork, and excellent organization of major events across Africa.
The Commission sends their best wishes to Mr. Adamu for a successful term and assures him of the strong support from the Nigerian sports community as he takes on this important responsibility.
