Africa-Press – Lesotho. As the festive gifting season continues, about 420 elderly people from Hololo are expected to receive food parcels on Saturday as part of a community-driven support initiative.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Friday, the Interim Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Hololo Development Foundation Mr. Mokhethi Mpotso said the gifts will be sourced entirely from the produce of local Hololo farmers, highlighting the community’s commitment to self-reliance and collective care.

He indicated that the initiative aims not only to support elderly citizens during the festive season but also to promote local agriculture by creating a direct link between farmers and community welfare efforts.

Mr. Mpotso further noted that the programme has been made possible through cooperation between farmers, community leaders, and volunteers, adding that priority will be given to elderly people who are living alone or facing economic hardships.

He said that the gesture reflects Basotho cultural values of ‘botho’ and solidarity, especially during the festive period, and expressed hope that the initiative will inspire other communities to adopt similar locally driven support programmes.

The distribution of the gifts is scheduled to take place at the Hololo constituency in Khukhune where beneficiaries will also receive words of encouragement from local leaders.
