Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) in collaboration with Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) gathered 21 match assessors in an ongoing three days virtual workshop.
The workshop started on Monday and will end today. As shared by Lesotho Referees Association Coordinator Mohau Sentšo, the course is aimed to enhance the skills of match assessors in the
country and introduce new ways which will be utilized amidst the ongoing pandemic. Sentšo said the workshop is supervised by Carlos Henriques as the main instructor.
“He is tasked by FIFA to facilitate this online training to match assessors. The course is one of the initiatives by the international
football administration that are intended to set new rules and regulations of the sport in this new era,” he clarified. “Last time we offered online courses to our referees and we
are fine that their skills are up to standard. Offering the course to match assessors will also refine the standard of assessing the games as match assessors work hand
in hand with the referees. One of the important roles of the match assessors is to note situations, positioning foul recognitions and other facets of the
crew’s individual performance (Referees). Assessors spent more time observing the match and making important reports that will be used to assess the games
and give specific feedbacks, including positive and negative items that occur during the match,” said Sentšo. He also added that LeFA is offering match assessors’ related
courses and informed that the candidates must be a former referee or at least have a deep understanding of refereeing related issues as to make the work easier
and be interactive. He said being an assessor is like being the referee’s coach and adviser. “The Lesotho Football Associations Referees department also
successfully conducted the fitness tests that were held at Setsoto Stadium this past Sunday, the tests were aimed to analyse whether our referees are still in good conditions following the fact that we never had a chance to test them earlier due to barriers brought by the pandemic,” he said.
