Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) announced the ultimate death of the referees’ technical instructor and match assessor Rethusitsoe Lebaka after a short

illness. In a media statement issued by LeFA Information and Media Officer Mikia Kalati on Monday it was stated that Lebaka had a long history in Lesotho’s football and

internationally having served LeFA’s mother bodies such as Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA), Confederation of African Football (CAF)

and Federation International Football Association (FIFA) from his time as a referee and in recent years as a match assessor as well as a referees instructor.

LeFA Referees Coordinator Mohau Sentšo confirmed the report to Informative Sport and further stated that Lebaka became ill with flu and died on 10th January.

He indicated that Lebaka became a long time referee in an association. “He turned out to be a referee and match assessor nationally and internationally since his first assignment from 1998 until now

when death cut his life short. Since 1998, Lebaka was recognized in various committees within LeFA such as compliance committee, play ground inspection

team and B and C Division management committee,” Sentšo noted He added that the late Lebaka was an active member in the association as other referees were learning from him.

“He was very energetic and admired, other referees even requested him to represent them in the association referees

committee that is going to be elected very soon, so I urge other referees who are coming after him to follow in his steps and work tirelessly to achieve

their goals,” he said. LeFA’s relevant announcement enlightened that Lebaka’s last continental assignment as a match assessor was the match between South Africa (SA) National Football team

Bafana Bafana and Sao Tome and Principe which was played in Durban Moses Mabhida Stadium on 13 November 2020. The report further affirmed that Lebaka will be remembered for his passion for the beautiful game and developing of young referees.
