MoH launches COVID-19 booster shot

Africa-Press – Lesotho. His Majesty King Letsie III has joined the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the launch of the Covid-19 booster shot vaccine roll out at Scott Hospital, Morija on

Monday. The vaccination is aimed at strengthening the immune system as well fighting against the Covid-19 disease. It will also be received by every person who

has already been injected either with Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer, Sinopharm or Astrazeneca six months ago. The booster shot as well as other vaccinations

serve the same purpose which is to boost the immune system. The National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Operational Support Thabo

Ntoi urged Basotho who have vaccinated and have gone beyond six months to get a dose of the booster shot. He said it is important for every Mosotho to vaccinate

to reduce the risk of infection. “We are also working towards ensuring the wellbeing of Basotho and also avoid putting the country back on lockdown. There

are two types of vaccines for boosting, which are Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson,” he said. Ministry of Health Director General of Health Services, Dr ‘Nyane Letsie indicated that

the purpose of boosting is to improvise the immune system that was affected by Covid-19 when a person was infected. She said anyone can be in contact with

Covid-19 and just because someone has vaccinated does not mean they are immune to the virus, but that one is stronger to take and survive the virus. “As

long as Covid-19 attacks countries, people will always be urged to vaccinate and boost until we can say it has no power over us. We have exceeded the 50%

which was the target goal given by World Health Organization (WHO) for every country. One other important thing to note is that we have many vaccines coming

into the country, so both people who have not vaccinated can vaccinate and also those who have to boost will be able to receive the vaccine,” she said.
