Africa-Press – Lesotho. Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro will officially open the Qholaqhoe Shearing Shed to Basotho wool and mohair producers on July 2nd 2020. According to a press statement from the
Wool and Mohair Promotion Project (WAMPP), this will be the official opening of all infrastructural works under the project. WAMPP is to spend more than M150
million on infrastructure; that includes construction of 22 new shearing sheds and rehabilitation of 43 existing ones, construction of two slaughter-slab
facilities in Quthing and Butha- Buthe, construction of more than 54 kilometres of feeder roads in order to make shearing sheds more accessible. Speaking ahead of the ceremony, WAMPP
Project Director Retšelisitsoe Khoalenyane explained that “the project aims to improve the quality and quantity of wool and mohair produced by Basotho.
It goes further to also improve the processing and marketing of these fibres, while also supporting Basotho women and youth to produce finished goods ranging from yarn, garments and wall decorations, to name a few,”. WAMPP is a seven year country-wide project that will conclude in 2022.
