Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Referees Technical Instructor Rethusitse Lebaka will attend the African Football Federation (CAF) training for referees’ instructors, CAF Futuro III
online, scheduled to start on August 8th to 10th. This will be a major boost for the local refereeing sphere, with Lebaka playing the key role of grooming referees across different levels in the country.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Informative Newspaper on Friday, referee coordinator Mohau Sents’o said referees to participate in this training were chosen on merits.
A same training was held in Rwanda last year where Lebaka was one of the best performers when results were published. Attending this particular training are the best performers from last year’s
training. Sents’o emphasized the importance of regular training for instructors to gain new knowledge and virtual experience of international standards and consequently always
be far ahead of their trainees. This he said helps the referees perpetuate football growth in the country. He speaks highly of the level of refereeing in
Lesotho and, is optimistic that frequent trainings as they happen, helps unleash the full potential of local referees. Lebaka is excited about his nomination and is committed to sharing the knowledge gathered
from this training with his juniors. Of all the trainings he has attended and that local referees have been attending, he said this particular one is very
special as the participants were selected based on their performance on the previous stated training within international referees. This speaks volumes about
the level of referring in the country versus the international referees. According to Lebaka, local referees are categorized accordingly to international
standards and, continue to host a good number of games reported to have done exceptionally well. In terms of challenges, they face just a few of them in the country.
At the forefront being poor security conditions that local referees often work under. As he explains, some games are of high magnitude and referees need to be highly
secure for unrestricted decision making. This he said, is barely the case in the country as more often referees are not given sufficient security, which inevitably affects their decision making during games. Being human, they are also human and are subjected vulnerability in some instances.
