Africa-Press – Lesotho. In an effort to intensify the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19) global outbreak, the Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB) has donated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipment to the value
of M1.2 million to the Maluti Adventist Hospital in Mapoteng, Berea on Tuesday. Lesotho currently stands at 17 positive Covid-19 cases with over 3000 tests conducted.
Speaking at the handover ceremony Maluti Adventist Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thabang Pulumo commended SLB, adding that the donation will go a long way
in assisting the hospital fight the pandemic. “I know that Berea Hospital has been selected by the government to treat Covid-19 patients but we know that
when cases increase Maluti hospital will have to step up and help hence we have to be capacitated with equipment,” he said. ICU is used to treat people in
critical conditions especially those with difficulty in breathing. Maluti Adventist Hospital Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Noel Noa Lehoko thanked SLB
for the support of essential ventilators and other important medical equipment they provided to the hospital. Lehoko also emphasized on the importance of the
equipment in taking care of Covid-19 patients. “We are in the middle of Covid-19 pandemic and even though our country has not registered significant number of
patients, we are still affected just like our neighbouring country South Africa (SA) and many other countries across the world,” he said. SLB Marketing Manager Manyathela Kheleli warned
Basotho that Covid-19 does exist and pleaded with them to observe the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendations, that include social distancing
rule to minimize the spread of the virus. “We have to stop being in denial, the virus is there and is taking many lives worldwide,” he said. Kheleli went on to mention that through the equipment, SLB aims to complement all efforts by the government of Lesotho geared towards saving the lives of people.
