Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Social Development,
Hon. Doti made the remarks during a speech at the House of Representatives on 05 November. He pointed out that when it came to the department’s attention that due to the COVID-19 epidemic, many children paid for by the parents in the end-of-year schools did not return to classes when the schools reopened on 06 October 2020.

He said the Ministry would extend a helping hand. to meet such children with exam fees and other school fees where required. These are children whose families have been badly affected by the Corona virus.

Honorable Doti pointed out that the Government of Lesotho has established a scholarship fund to implement the policy of education for children that is nationwide and easily accessible.

He pointed out that Lesotho had signed an international agreement with the African Union, which specifically states that education is a fundamental right of the child, adding that this is why Lesotho has implemented these policies in practice. the Child Protection and Protection Act of 2011, which guarantees education as a key tool in child protection and development.

Doti explained that the Ministry had asked school principals to help provide lists of children who did not return to classes due to the tragedy caused by the epidemic, and those who returned to schools when they reopened but were unable to pay.
