Africa-Press – Lesotho. With the year beginning and people having wishes and resolutions, youth from Ha-Mafefooane Roma are no exception as they also expect 2026 to be a better year.

They said the past year was harder saying they hope things to change for the better in terms of employment, food production etc.

Speaking in an interview, one Thabiso Thella said he graduated from university five years ago saying he thought by now he would have gotten a job but nothing.

He said mid last year, he ventured into a car wash business which he has employed two people, saying he realized that though the turnover is not much, at least he was able to change two other people’s lives.

He mentioned that he is still looking for a job as a qualified accountant so that he would leave his position for the third person to work at the carwash.

He indicated that he gets support from local people as well as taxis with at least over five cars washed per day.

On the other hand, another Lineo Senekane who is now on wheelchair due to health complications said she cannot walk but given a chance and getting all necessary gadgets, she aspires to teach on-line not only abroad but here at home as well.

She said though she is not a teacher by profession, but she did short courses which can help her teach English on-line.

She said she wants to do this so that she does not wait for handouts.

Moreover, Bernard Mothibeli said in his small garden he has produced enough rape to sell to others saying this has taught him to plant on a larger scale so that he could supply others.

He said he has planted pumpkin on a larger scale saying if the weather permits, he might have around 1,000 pumpkins during harvest.

Meanwhile in his new year’s message, His Majesty King had called on the nation to take advantage of the current rains to ensure that they go to the fields for food production.

He stressed the need for climate resilient agriculture pointing out the increasing impacts of climate change continue to threaten food production and nutrition outcomes.

Ha-Mafefooane, a village within the Roma Valley served with a good, tarred road, is situated about 45km from Maseru with the population of about 4,000.
