Africa-Press – Liberia. According to organizers, winners in both sports will advance to the Regional Championship in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The 2025 Grand Bassa County High School Championship officially kicked off in Buchanan on Friday, April 25, with football and kickball matches at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium.
The six-day tournament, running through May 2, is the first phase of the National High School Football and Kickball Championship. Twelve high schools from across Grand Bassa are participating.
Participating schools include: WPL Brumskine, Gorblee, Open Bible, JC Early, Bassa High, New Testament, Liberia Christian, St. Joseph, Oceanview, World Wide Mission, SDA, and St. Peter Claver High Schools.
According to organizers, winners in both sports will advance to the Regional Championship in Gbarnga, Bong County, with transportation, accommodation, and feeding costs covered by the National High School Sports body.
The top school from the regional phase will move on to the National Championship in Montserrado County, where the ultimate winner stands to win US$7,000 in cash, a trophy, medals, and an international trip (football) to either Ghana or Nigeria. Most Valuable Players (MVPs) in both football and kickball will also receive a US$1,000 cash prize and additional awards from sponsors.

The tournament continues on April 28 with Bassa High facing New Testament and Liberia Christian taking on St. Joseph in both sports.
On April 29, Oceanview will play World Wide Mission, while SDA will battle St. Peter Claver in football and kickball.
Organized by National High School Sports, the tournament is also a platform to boost school enrollment and deliver national awareness messages. Since 2017, the group has worked with partners such as UNESCO, WaterAid Liberia, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, and others.

Region 1: Lofa, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu
Region 2: Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa, Margibi
Region 3: Montserrado
Region 4: River Cess, Sinoe, Grand Kru
Region 5: Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh
