Liberian sports journalist T. Kla Wesley Jr. has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a Media Officer for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, marking a historic first for Liberia.
Wesley becomes the first Liberian journalist to be officially assigned as a CAF Media Officer at a major continental tournament.
Beginning his journalism career in 2013 by writing sports content on Facebook, Wesley’s professional journey accelerated when he joined The Bush Chicken as a sports reporter in 2015. His reporting excellence earned him the Press Union of Liberia’s Sports Reporter of the Year award in 2018.
In 2019, Wesley was named CAF’s official correspondent to Liberia. He later covered the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and was recognized as the Liberia Football Association’s Football Journalist of the Year in 2024.
Reacting to his latest appointment, Wesley said, “I am excited for the appointment as Media Officer of the U-20 AFCON. It’s a win not only for me but for Liberia. I hope young journalists will see it as motivation and work harder in a professional way so they can go beyond whatever benchmark I set.”
