Bettomax Champions Cup Group B Matchday Two Update

Africa-Press – Liberia. Global Pharma head Coach Reo Nyanti described the Bettomax Champions Cup as more than just a competition, but also a valuable pre-season platform.

The Bettomax Champions Cup that is in collaboration with The Liberia Football Association for the top eight team from last season is beginning to take shape and all eyes turn to Group B on Wednesday August 27 at the Tusa Field in Gardnersville, where two crunch fixtures could decide which teams gain an early advantage in the race for the knockout stage.

Global Pharma, fresh from a resilient 2-0 victory over Discoveries FC in their opening game, will now take on Watanga FC, who are desperate to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Freeport FC. With three points already on the board, Global Pharma knows another win could put them within touching distance of qualification, while Watanga faces a must-win situation to keep their hopes alive.

However, history is not on Global’s side—Watanga did the double over them last season and will be eager to repeat that feat to get their campaign back on track.

In the other clash, Freeport FC goes head-to-head with Discoveries FC. Freeport edged Watanga in their opener, showcasing grit and discipline to secure a vital three points. A second win would see them top the group and tighten their grip on a semifinal spot. But Discoveries, despite controlling possession against Global Pharma in their first outing, paid the price for not converting chances. They’ll be keen to turn dominance into goals this time around.

Speaking ahead of the showdown, Global Pharma head Coach Reo Nyanti described the Bettomax Champions Cup as more than just a competition, but also a valuable pre-season platform. “This tournament is good preparation for us ahead of the new league season in October. The level of competition gives our players the chance to sharpen up,” he said.

The stakes are high in Group B, with US$10,000 set aside for the champions and US$5,000 for the runners-up. Wins for Freeport or Global could all but seal their places in the knockout stage, but victories for the chasers—Watanga and Discoveries would blow the group wide open.

The Bettomax Champions Cup promised intensity from the start, and Wednesday’s Group B fixtures at the Tusa Field are set to deliver just that drama, goals, and high-stakes football.

In Tuesday’s early kickoff Heaven Eleven defeated Paynesville FC 1-0 to secure their place in the semifinals with Moses Cooper getting the only goal of the day.

Bea Mountain after a 1-1 draw in their first game with Paynesville bounced back stronger to beat Blackman Warriors 2-0 in the last match.

Fredrick Dennis and Dominic Nyon got the Bea Mountain goals to put them in contention for the second story place slot in the group.
