Businessman Appeals for Aid After $83K Pleebo Fire Loss

Africa-Press – Liberia. In the absence of a fire service in Pleebo, residents were left to fight the blaze using only buckets of water and sand — efforts that proved futile.
A local businessman, Gyude Morgan, has appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance after a devastating fire in Pleebo’s Zone Four Community wiped out his home, storage units and merchandise valued at over US$83,000.

The incident occurred during the afternoon hours on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Morgan, a father of nine, said the incident occurred while he was away on his farm. “I have lost everything I worked for,” he said in a sorrowful tone.

“My children depend on me for their education and survival. Now, I do not know where to begin again. I am appealing to humanitarian groups and good-spirited people to come to our rescue.”

According to eyewitnesses, the fire began in a nearby mud house and rapidly spread to Morgan’s property. In the absence of a fire service in Pleebo, residents were left to fight the blaze using only buckets of water and sand — efforts that proved futile.

“We tried, but there was nothing we could do,” Hendrick Davis, a resident, recounted. “We had no fire truck, nothing. No even the Fire service. We just watched the fire destroy everything.”

Morgan’s property, which included eight rooms, two storage facilities and a small apartment, was completely consumed by the fire. The site served not just as a family home but also as the center of his retail business, which supported his household.

“Six of my children are still in school and three just finished high school. Everything was in that house — their uniforms, books, my goods, our future. All gone,” Morgan added.

Neighbors expressed deep sympathy for the family. “This fire has left Mr. Morgan and his children in a very desperate condition,” Patience Hinneh, a neighbor, shared. “He needs the help of everyone, because this was his life’s investment.”

While community members are offering moral support and limited material aid, Morgan’s needs far exceed what residents can provide. He is now seeking help to rebuild, feed his family, and keep his children in school.

“I’m not asking for too much, just a chance to start again,” Morgan said in a quiet plea.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
