The much-anticipated Back to School Tournament of the 2025/2026 Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) officially kicks off today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Montserrado County, with the majority of ISSA’s registered schools expected to participate.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FrontPage Africa, ISSA President Evan Somah said the main goal of the Back-to-School edition is to reawaken the sporting spirit among student-athletes from schools that have already completed their registration for the upcoming league season.

According to Somah, the tournament also serves as an orientation period to help schools understand their game schedules, venues, and zones ahead of the start of the full ISSA 2025/2026 league.

“The main aim of the ISSA ‘Back to School’ tournament is to reawaken the sports spirit of athletes from registered schools,” Somah told FrontPage Africa. “It will also help school administrators and sports directors familiarize themselves with the schedule, rules, and proper conduct during and after game time.”

Somah disclosed that schools have already been informed of their respective zones and playing locations, and that the fixture for the league will soon be distributed to all registered members. He urged school administrators and sports directors to remain present during games to ensure discipline and control among students.

The ISSA president further revealed that the 2025/2026 league season is expected to officially commence on November 15, 2025. However, he cautioned that schools that fail to complete their registration process by November 10 will not be allowed to participate.

“We’ve made it clear schools that have not completed their registration by November 10 will not take part in this year’s league,” Somah emphasized. “We want to ensure that everything is done on time so the league can move smoothly and promote the common growth of our athletes’ skills.”

The ISSA Back to School Tournament serves as a curtain-raiser for Liberia’s most competitive inter-school sports league, which has become an important platform for discovering and nurturing young sporting talents across the country.
