CDC-Europe Concludes 2025 Ghent Convention Leadership

Africa-Press – Liberia. The European Chapter of Liberia’s main opposition party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has concluded a two-day convention in Ghent, Belgium, signaling renewed energy within the diaspora for a potential political comeback of former President George Manneh Weah in 2029.

Held under the theme: “The Road to Renewal: Rebranding CDC-Europe for Weah’s 2029 Return,” the convention brought together delegates and senior CDC figures from across the continent. The gathering served as both a leadership transition and a strategy session to realign the chapter’s focus toward the party’s broader national objectives.

Former Minister of Gender and Executive Committee member of CDC Global, Williametta Piso Saydee Tarr, affectionately known within party circles as ‘Madiba’, administered the oath of office to the newly elected European Leadership Team.

Representing former President Weah at the event, Siokon Civicus Barsigiah delivered a special message on his behalf, reaffirming the former president’s confidence in the diaspora’s crucial role in the party’s rebuilding efforts and future electoral strategies.

Re-elected unopposed, Chairman Michael Andrew Massaquoi used the occasion to rally members around a message of unity, inclusion and discipline, describing these as essential pillars for the CDC’s Resurgence ahead of 2029.

“This is the time for collaboration and recommitment,” Massaquoi said. “If we remain united and disciplined, the CDC will not just rebound — it will return stronger and more inclusive than ever.”

Delegates at the convention described the Ghent Meeting as a strategic reset for CDC-Europe and a clear signal that enthusiasm for Weah’s political return is gaining traction across the Liberian diaspora.
