Africa-Press – Liberia. Angry residents, predominantly from the ethnic Mandingo group, protest here in demand of properties allegedly occupied forcibly by other residents.

Nimba, Liberia, July 24, 2024 – Scores of residents of Ganta, mainly from the Mandingo tribe under the banner Ganta Support groups, have threatened to violently re-claim their properties, including lands that were forcibly occupied during the civil crisis.

The aggrieved landowners converged in front of the old Ganta general market with placards, demanding justice from the government.

According to them, the Government of Liberia has refused to implement ruling rendered in their favor by the ECOWAS Court.

They have vowed to use any means, including violence, to reclaim their lands.

The aggrieved landowners gathered at the old Ganta general market and around the Saclepea parking lot, where they read a position statement on the issue that has lingered since President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration.

Sakou A. Sanoe, Saidu Kormah, chairperson of the Ganta Support group, Sekou M. Dozon, and Soko Sackor, vice chairperson of the Nimba County Mandingo and Muslim Association, told the NEW DAWN they are willing to die for their properties, but there is no compromise.

According to them, they have helped maintain peace for the past 21 years without any confusion, but it seems that the government is unwilling to implement the ruling by the ECOWAS Court. Editing by Jonathan Browne
