Africa-Press – Liberia. President Joseph Boakai on Tuesday said his administration’s proposed one billion-dollar national budget represents a key achievement for economic growth.

The last Cabinet Retreat for 2025, held a month before the President enters his third year in office, took place in Tubmanburg City. The city has hosted several dignitaries in recent days, beginning with President Boakai’s birthday celebration on Sunday and ending with Tuesday’s retreat.

In his opening statement, President Boakai praised his team for helping achieve the one billion-dollar proposed national budget.

“The economy is stabilizing, growth is accelerating, and the key achievement this year is that we have surpassed the one billion-dollar budget. For a long time, we have been between six hundred and seven hundred million. To make such an improvement, we must congratulate everyone who contributed. Most of the money is locally sourced, and that is the beauty of it,” President Boakai said.

The Liberian leader called on his officials to collaborate in order to meet their targets under the government’s performance management system.

“The public sector’s delivery depends on our strong performance. Our officials must collaborate,” President Boakai stated.

He added: “A few things are happening in agriculture. Rice production is rising, with nearly 15,000 hectares under cultivation.”

The President also praised citizens for supporting the security sector in the fight against drugs. According to him, the government is fully prepared to intensify its efforts against drug abuse and trafficking.

“I want to say that from all indications, the fight against drugs is being taken seriously by the citizens themselves, and I am grateful to them. National security has improved. We must continue to intensify our action against drugs,” he said.

President Boakai noted that the fight must also focus on rehabilitation.

“Our young people need to be rehabilitated. So, it is not just about fighting drugs; it is also about rehabilitating some of those who have been affected,” he added.

The President further spoke strongly about corruption and called for the fast-tracking of cases involving suspended officials in his government.

“We are not relenting in our fight against corruption. I have already begun setting examples to demonstrate our seriousness. The cases involving suspended tenure officials should be resolved promptly. We must address them without delay,” he said.

President Boakai added: “Some cases need to go to the LACC. I’m saying this without delay because sometimes delays create problems. People talk about the delays, and they affect our progress.”

He also praised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other line ministries for strategically representing Liberia abroad.

“Internationally, Liberia is regaining credibility and visibility. Provide regular reporting to track the outcomes of foreign trips and engagements with development partners to ensure that Liberians benefit from these trips,” he said.
