Africa-Press – Liberia. Hawa Dennis, the founder and executive director of the Bright Star Orphanage Home (BSOH), has appealed for financial support from the public and the Liberian government. According to Dennis, providing basic necessities such as education, food, and a comfortable sleeping environment has become increasingly challenging due to her limited financial resources.

The lack of regular meals and the inability to pay tuition for the kids have also been particularly challenging for the children under her care.

Despite these difficulties, Dennis remains hopeful and relies on her faith to overcome the obstacles. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, Dennis revealed that she currently relies on the assistance of three women, whom she pays US$25 each, to take care of various tasks such as washing the children’s clothes, cooking their meals, and looking after them.

Dennis’ call for support, she said, is driven by her desire to ensure that the children in her orphanage, which is located in Sackie Town, Todee District, Lower Montserrado County, can thrive and succeed.

She shared that her passion for caring for others began in her childhood, as she would often serve food to children at the orphanage where she lived.

Dennis’ husband recognized her dedication and encouraged her to pursue her vision of establishing an orphanage home of her own. She explained that she initially started taking care of a few children in 2015.

However, as their numbers grew in subsequent years, she officially established the orphanage home in 2018 after the Ebola outbreak in Liberia. Despite her best efforts, financial constraints hindered the progress of the orphanage. Nevertheless, Dennis persevered and continued to care for children in Guinea before returning to Liberia and reopening the orphanage in Todee district during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At present, the Bright Star Orphanage home houses thirty-two children, consisting of fifteen boys and seventeen girls. She expressed her willingness to take in more children if provided with the necessary support. She highlighted the urgent need for assistance from the international community, the people of Liberia, and the Liberian government in order to ensure the well-being and future success of these children.

Dennis hopes to witness the growth and achievement of the children she cares for, as they overcome their challenging circumstances and become valuable contributors to society.
