Africa-Press – Liberia. Marshall City, Margibi County- Liberia’s Former First Lady Madam Clar Marie Weah at the official opening of the State-of-the-Art City of Hope Academy in Marshall City, Margibi County says her institution is Non-political and that everyone is welcome.
The City of Hope is a multi-purpose complex dedicated to providing quality education, technical training, and a better way of life to orphans, street girls, and disadvantaged youth.
The project is a testament to the commitment to creating an equitable society where women and children are empowered to lead independent lives,” a statement posted on the Madam Weah social media page says.
Delivering a special statement at the official opening Wednesday August 14, 2024, Madam Weah said despite her husband former President George Weah is a politician, she being a former first lady is ill-political.
“In regards to this foundation, in regards to the young people that we hired, I never asked one of them that are you a Cdcian, or Upist, or are you from Liberty Party, or ANC. It doesn’t play a part in my heart,” Madam Weah said.
According to former President Weah’s wife, she supports her husband in everything he does but added that she has a mind and a heart of her own.
“By the nature of law people will say I’m a Cdcian, yes, I support my husband but I’m here to support the people of this nation, everyone is welcome here. God has blessed me to bless many children and people has he has blessed. So, I hope this is well understood that this is not a political ground, it’s open to everybody,” Madam Weah stressed.
She added: “I hope that you all support the cause not for me -I hope that this will stand long after my existence and the only way that will happen until we all work together.”
Madam Weah also express her sincere heartfelt gratitude to everyone who honored her invitation to attend the official opening of the City of Hope Academy.
“Your presence and support at the event mean the world to us. Thank you, your time and contributions are truly appreciated,” she said.
Madam Weah added: “Our goal is to help many underprivileged children with food, shelter, clothing and quality education at the City of Hope Academy. This can’t be achieved without your support, we sincerely appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing you at our future events.”
On June 4, 2018, Madam Weah officially launched the Clar Hope Foundation with the vision of helping underprivileged girls in Liberia. It was a big dream, she said.
The institution before the official opening received the first batch of beneficiaries.
“We have committed ourselves to give these kids quality education from primary to senior high and vocational training,” she said.
