Africa-Press – Liberia. Tina Mehnpaine, Daily Observer Newspaper journalist, is among 16 African journalists attending the Taz Panter Africa Workshop in Berlin, Germany.

The training, which commenced on January 14, will run up to January 24th in Berlin, Germany. As part of the training, there will be a short trip to Brussels to visit the European Parliament and meet Helmut Scholz, a member of the European Parliament.

Participants are drawn from Liberia, Rwanda, Namibia, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia, Cameroon, Mauritius, Lesotho, and Zambia. They are receiving training in digital security, migration, and the Europen Union (EU) climate policy with a focus on “Reconnecting–African-European perspectives.”

Also, participants will meet with Black German Activists, Civil Society Organizations, attend federal press conferences, and tour the historic decolonial museum.

They will meet with experts on the EU’s Ukraine policy, visa policy, EU foreign policy, the Department for International Culture Policy, and the head of the German-Africa Business Association.

Also, they will meet members of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) Research Group Megatrends Afrika to talk about the Sahel trade, the EU migration, and Border policy.

A panel will be held on “A Common Future?-European and Africa in a world of Shifting Global Powers to enlighthen participants on the relationships between Europe and Africa.”

The six month training began in 2023 with series of online webinars on the food crisis in the wake of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, climate change, looted cultural assets, and migration.

Other topics include Old and New Players in Africa, EU Strategy Global Gateway, Magazine Planning, and Gender. The participants will work on presentations from the workshop and publish them in their local media entities, and conclude with a magazine.

The workshop is also intended to strengthen African-European relations. The workshop is primarily about helping African journalists explore the relationship between the two continents.

“Germany has a strong connection with Liberia,” Tina said. “And this workshop is just exploring more and more. I can’t wait to visit the EU Parliament to see how they vote and make laws.”
