Africa-Press – Liberia. In a show of corporate social responsibility and community support, Watanga Football Club and Bettomax Liberia on Saturday donated assorted food and non-food items to the J & J Medical Health Center located along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway.
The donation, presented in the presence of Watanga players, hospital staff, and officials of Bettomax Liberia, included bags of rice, a mini freezer, chairs, tables, tissue, and other essential cleaning supplies aimed at improving the hospital’s operations.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Fallah Briama, Operational Manager of Bettomax, said it was an honor for the company to assist the health facility with some of its basic needs.
“This donation is part of our monthly commitment through our partnership with Watanga FC and Shaita Angels, a female football team,” Briama explained. “It’s our way of giving back to the Liberian people through football a game that brings joy to so many.”
Briama noted that Bettomax’s involvement in football and sports betting comes with a responsibility to make a positive impact.
As part of its agreement with both Watanga and Shaita Angels, the betting company donates US$1,000 worth of items each month to health centers, orphanages, and vulnerable communities.
“We also want to appreciate the nurses and entire management of this hospital,” he added. “If we’re here today, it means our football club and the community recognize the meaningful work you are doing to help patients and keep people healthy.”
He encouraged other businesses and institutions across Liberia to follow suit, noting that the country faces many challenges, and collective action is needed to support health and community initiatives.
Receiving the donation, Felecial Myers Slewion, Officer-in-Charge of J & J Medical Health Center, expressed gratitude to Bettomax and Watanga for the gesture, describing it as both timely and impactful.
“This is the first time a football team has identified with us,” she said. “We are grateful, and we promise to use the items for their intended purpose. We also hope this will be a continuous initiative.”
Speaking on behalf of Watanga FC, Chief Executive Officer G. Andy Quamie lauded Bettomax for its consistent support to the club and the community.
“We are thankful to Bettomax for always standing by us,” Quamie said. “Not many clubs in Liberia are fortunate to have this kind of partnership. We will continue to strengthen our community ties, and we plan to hold discussions with this hospital to provide medical care for our players and local residents.”
The initiative, officials say, reflects Bettomax and Watanga’s shared vision of using sports as a platform to promote community development and well-being.
