Africa-Press – Liberia. The Friends of Massachusetts an organization base in the United States of America has concluded its first-anniversary celebration, outlining several major achievements.
Speaking during the ceremony held on April recently in Worcester MA, the United States of America, the president of the US base group Prince Woods, a Liberian, described the event as a worth–celebrating one, especially with the level of gains made by the group under his leadership.
He named growth In the membership, Unity, identifying with both the Young and old People, and reaching out to those who needed help the most as few among the many achievements during the first year of his leadership at FOMA.
Mr. Woods’s boost of taking the membership of the group from ten (10) to fifty (50) persons in one year, something he noted, was not done by only him alone, but by his entire leadership.
He said they were able to also stretch some financial aid to old folks in Worcester, Massachusetts community.
Recollecting all of the challenges and Achievements, Woods said that it was a good experience in the first year as president of the group.
He promised to look back to where he did well and continue and where he did not perform well to improve and make some amends for the betterment of the group.
As the group moves into its second year, Mr. Prince Woods envisage doing more for his people and going the extra mile to bring relief to FOMA.
He asserted that they are hoping to build a partnership with the health sector in the United States in-other to help those people who are suffering from different kinds of sicknesses.
The FOMA boss also mentioned that his leadership is also making huge efforts in convincing authorities of the immigration services in the US to help Africans who have issues with their documents to complete their papers work in other to work and do other things freely while in the United States.
Furthermore, Woods asserted that he and his leadership are working with the metropolitan police, in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, to free those young Africans who have been in prison for several months and years due to false allegations or harmless crimes.
The ceremony was also inclusive of certification of awards to hard-working members of FOMA and students in local schools across Worcester, U.S.A. It also brought together; local state leaders, student representatives, and old and young folks from all over the Massachusetts community.
In October 2022, the friends of Massachusetts received special recognition from the Rhode Island House of Representatives for their selfless and devoted work to their local community.
Presenting the citation to the group on behalf of the House of Representatives last year, Congressman Nathan W. Biah, who represents the 3rd District in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, congratulated the group for their commitment to conducting themselves more respectfully.
Representative Biah, on behalf of the entire membership of the Rhode Island parliament, extended best wishes to the group and expressed hope that they will continue in good fortune.
At the same time, on –behalf of FOMA Mr. Prince Woods, who was just inducted as president of the organization, lauded the Rhode Island House of Representatives for such a rewarding recognition something he says, the group will not easily forget.
Woods, who was inducted along with several other co-workers on the same day, thanked not only the US congressman for attending the occasion but used the time to appreciate his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him.
The Liberian humanitarian in his acceptance speech then noted, that his election as president of the “Friends of Massachusetts” is not something he sees lightly, as he promised to represent the group in its best interest.
“My main goal this year is to encourage the membership to make a difference,” Woods noted.
He revealed how his administration will undertake several initiatives to assist both young and elderly people.
Woods explained how elderly immigrants in the Worcester community, Massachusetts, are confronted with many challenges including maintaining their independence, economic security, active relations with their friends and families, and reaping the benefits of American immigration among several other issues.
He said with these enormous challenges the old folks are facing coal efforts must be made to serve them something he says, his leadership is committed to doing.
FOMA’s newly inducted president noted; that under his leadership, the organization will assist the elders in communicating with them and ensuring that they have equitable access to government programs and services.
He named the offering of free programs and services to elderly immigrants, helping them navigate the complex system of public benefits and long-term care programs as other major initiatives and programs his leadership will focus on.
FOMA Boss challenged his team members to step up and embrace themselves toward genuine change and encouraged them not to ignore the confidence of their colleagues noting, how they must utilize the opportunity to serve.
The induction ceremony brought together several Africans with dominant Liberians based in the US.
Those elected and inducted into office in October 2022, include Mr. Prince Woods-President, Mr. Emmanuel B. Ndebeh vice president, Mr. Aloysius Hinneh Secretary General, Mr. Francis Artey, Financial secretary, Tom J.O.B Knowry, financial secretary, Mrs. Tawa Woods assisting secretary and Mr. Thomas Nyenswah chaplain among others.
The elected officers, according to the organization’s by-laws, will serve for two years beginning October 2022.
