Africa-Press – Liberia. In a thrilling match at the Barnesville Estate basketball court on Sunday, June 18, 2023, the Migos basketball team emerged victorious with a score of 25-19 against the G. Youngies, further heating up the ongoing Humanitarian Youth for Developmental Initiative (HYDI) youth basketball tournament.
This off-season tournament aims to foster unity among the residents of Gardnerville, featuring teams from various communities in the area. Coach Fitzgerald Collins of Migos expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the group stage and urged his players to maintain their exceptional ball control and tactical prowess as they prepare for the knockout stage.“I want to extend my gratitude to my players for securing our team’s spot in the knockout stage. I hope they will continue to showcase their skillful ball control and strategic baskets against future opponents,” Coach Collins stated during a media interaction.
On the other side, G. Young’s head coach, Kelvin Harris, attributed his team’s defeat to poor ball possession, which he described as frustrating. He encouraged his players to intensify their training and focus on the upcoming knockout challenges. “I believe my players understand the mistakes they made in our last group stage game. I hope and pray that they will redirect their focus towards the knockout stage, enabling us to finish the tournament as champions,” said Coach Harris.
In another match held on the same day, the Barnesville Force dominated the Raptors with a commanding score of 37-11 in the day’s final encounter. On Saturday, June 17, 2023, Brother Hood suffered a defeat of 28-16 against BBC in the last game of the day.
Additionally, Balling Squad and Johnsonville Bulldog forfeited their respective points, resulting in Balling Squad advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament.
