Africa-Press – Liberia. The Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) has constituted two pivotal committees to steer the affairs of its much-anticipated 2025 Congress and Elections, scheduled for October.
At the center of this historic process is Independent Newspaper’s Reporter, Frank Wleh-Pah Juswen Martin, who has been appointed as Chairperson of the Elections Committee.
In his acceptance statement, Martin described his preferment as both “a moral covenant and a sacred trust.”
He emphasized that his stewardship would embody fairness, impartiality, and accountability.
“With profound humility and philosophical reflection, I accept my preferment as Chairperson of the Elections Committee of the Reporters Association of Liberia,” Martin declared.
“This responsibility transcends the ordinary; it is not simply an administrative duty, but a moral covenant, a test of integrity, and a duty to safeguard the ethos of our Association.”
Martin, known in Liberia’s media landscape for his bold and incisive reportage, assured his colleagues that the Committee would ensure a transparent process.
“Alongside my distinguished colleagues on the Committee, we shall labor with intellectual honesty and moral courage to ensure that the October 2025 Congress and Elections are conducted in a manner that inspires confidence, reflects the sovereign will of our membership, and projects RAL as a model of internal democracy and institutional integrity,” he affirmed.
The Elections Committee comprises Grace Bryant of the Inquirer Newspaper as Co-Chairperson, Bobby Marvin Tingban of RAL as Secretary, and members Sally Toulubo (Radio Kakata), Sampson Davies (ELBC), Alvinna Gbeingan (Kool FM), Joseph Kerkulah (Cape Radio), and Ernest Dossan (Shaita FM).
Parallel to this, the Congress Committee, headed by Kings FM’s Benjamin Quaye Johnson, will oversee preparations for the RAL Congress itself. The team includes Victoria Wesseh of FrontPage Africa as Co-Chairperson, alongside several prominent broadcasters and print journalists.
RAL President Willie N. Tokpah, Sr. described the committees as critical to the integrity of the upcoming process.
“Our collective responsibility is to ensure that the 2025 Congress and Elections are free, fair, transparent, and inclusive. These committees embody our Association’s commitment to internal democracy and the future of the Liberian media fraternity,” Tokpah stated.
The Association has also announced a reduction in annual membership dues, slashing fees to US$5 per year, totaling US$15 for the required three years, allowing more members to qualify for participation.
Secretary-General Bobby M. Tingban, who signed the release, underscored the importance of regularizing membership. “Every journalist who believes in the ideals of RAL must seize this opportunity to contribute to shaping the destiny of the Association,” he urged.
For Martin, the appointment is more than a professional milestone, it is a philosophical charge.
Quoting Socrates, he reflected that “an unexamined life is not worth living,” stressing that the examination of RAL’s democratic processes would refine the Association’s collective spirit.
“Every eligible journalist, from Monrovia to the remotest corners of our country, shall be afforded the opportunity to participate meaningfully in shaping the destiny of our Association. My interest has always been to serve Liberia with impact,” Martin concluded.
