Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia’s Commerce Inspector General and Vice Chair for Administration of National Youth League of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Madam Josephine A. W. David has given the people of Peace Island in Congo Town sigh of relief with the news that their squatters status on the land they presently occupy would be legitimized under the tenure of President George Manneh Weah.

She told residents at the end of a Community Bloc sports tournament in the area that their responsible and patriotic posture in their quest for legitimacy has drawn the President’s attention to the effect that he would be giving them their wish as a demonstration of his unflinching commitment to lifting the lives of ordinary citizens across the country.

The Electoral District #10 Representative Hopeful said “I was in a car when a taxi driver rained insults at two women from the community saying this place is for criminals, it belongs to government, calling on the residents to vacate the community. I told myself that something good can come from Peace Island. Peace Island is a peaceful community, and you cannot stereotype the people of the community. Don’t let people stereotype you. You are Liberians and for the fact that you live in this place, you will never be abandoned and time will come and something good will come from this place one day.”

Madam Davies indicated to the cheering residents that their efforts in electing President George Weah has given a good face and new dimension to the people of Peace Island.

“The people that were rejected and neglected for 12 years, they are today the lovely families. People admire the people of Peace Island because today people are trooping their way into the community to reside. This time we are clear because you gave us six years mandate and I know you will give another six years to President George Manneh Weah,” she added.

The Commerce Inspector General further said “I want to let you know that your status will change as long as you have President George Manneh Weah as the President of the Republic of Liberia. You can take my words to the bank. His Excellency President George Manneh Weah will give your status right. You will become the legitimate owners of this place in the future.”

Ten (10) teams participated in the tournament and each of the participating teams was given a set of jerseys and other sporting materials through the Josephine W. A. Davies Foundation. Madam Davies Who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation called on every team in the tournament to see themselves as winners.

The winners of the Football and Kickball teams were each given giant trophies, medals and other essential materials. On March 8, 2021, President Weah turned on lights in the community to launch the Government of Liberia’s “Light Up Monrovia” project -a classic show of interest in community.

The lighting up ceremony was performed by President Weah along with the European Union Head of Delegation, Ambassador Laurent Delahousse who switched on hundreds of homes in the community.
