Senior students at the Jenneh Public School in Bomi County that are writing the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been provided 150 sachets of water and two bags of rice after students from the school made an urgent call to the Hott FM Crime Watch Program a few nights ago.The Hott FM Crime Watch Program is a program that enhances the National Police efforts to curtail crimes and helps individuals who are in dire need of assistance especially during the night hours.
The students told the Hott FM Crime Watch team that the only wall on their campus was unsafe for them to drink especially at the they are writing the WASSCE. They also complained about the lack of food and other basic items.
Zaza Ballah is the Chief Executive Officer of the program. Over the weekend, Mr. Ballah, the Head of the Elder Council Mr. Clayton G. Tarpeh, and scores of other executives trooped their way to Bomi County to put smiles on the faces of the students.
“We were recently touched by the plight of those that are here writing their WASSCE. They told us that they had run out of water and some basic needs like food, sanitary, and other things. And so, we have come to identify with them with 150 sachets of water and two bags of rice. In the coming days before they can finish their exam we will come back with other items,” Mr. Ballad said.
He added: “We are not only in the area of fighting crime. We are also helping our mothers, our pregnant women that get into labor pain during the night hours. We at times pay the medical bid for those pregnant women. We have supporters in the US and also at home that are helping us.”
“At this time, Liberia needs us the most. We can not sit down when we hear that students at the Jenneh Public School ran out of water,” Mr. Ballad stressed.
According to the Hott FM Crime Watch Program CEO, his team in the coming days will also reach out to another public school in Klay District, Bomi County.
Also speaking, Elder Tarpeh said after listening to the plight of the students they were touched to make what he termed as SOS calls to seek funding from their partners.
“So, we have come today to give the little we got to the students. From here we will reach out to students in Klay District to give a helping hand to some of the students there. We also need an ambulance to help our pregnant women at night,” Mr. Tarpeh said.
Ma Zoe Holmes is one of the administrators at the school. She praised the Crime Watch team for their speedy intervention.
“I tell you guys thank you for coming into our county and for helping our students,” Mrs. Holmes said.
Veronica W. Kollie is one of the students. She said: “We want to say thank you to the Crime Watch team. We pray for all those who make these items possible.”
