Africa-Press – Liberia. Indian Ambassador, Pradip Yadav, has claimed that “Yoga is extremely useful in today’s stressful life”in a speech marking the 9th International Day of Yoga.
Yadav, who along with Varney Sirleaf, the Minister of Internal Affairs, led the Yoga Day celebrations in Liberia, said Yoga provides “us with a simple yet powerful tool” to promote resilience, strengthen immunity, and maintain a sound mind and body.
According to him, Yoga gives the world an opportunity to come together in the spirit of unity, health, and wellbeing.
“This year’s Yoga Day theme is in line with India’s ongoing G-20 Presidency theme. Today’s Yoga Day is being celebrated under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in association with Mahatma Cultural Centre,” Yadav said. “Yoga or Yog means to join or to add. Yoga, as we all know, is extremely useful in today’s stressful life.”
The theme of this year’s event, “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” means “Yoga for One Earth, One Family, One Future”. Yoga, which originated in India, has been adopted by the whole world, with over 177 nations co-sponsoring the resolution in the United Nations General Assembly for the adoption of the 21st of June as the International Day of Yoga. Yoga has become a daily way of life for millions around the globe.
This year’s celebration is led by Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at the UN General Assembly in New York. He has written a letter to President George Weah, thanking Liberia for its support and contribution in popularizing yoga in the country.
As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrating India’s 75th Anniversary of Independence, Unity has been identified as one of the themes until August 2023.
“There is a greater need today to educate young Indians, students, and especially those living abroad, on India’s freedom struggle and the value of ‘Unity’ that symbolizes our great country – India,” Yadav added.
Meanwhile, Yadav has announced that the India government will commence “full-fledged visa services” in Liberia on June 26.
The first visa was issued to a Liberian student on June 15th during the trial run. E-Visas for tourism, medical, business, and conferences can be applied for online as well as at the embassy. “I am sure the start of visa services will add another positive chapter in India-Liberia bilateral relations and result in more and more of our Liberian and other friends visiting Incredible India for tourism, business, education, and high class yet affordable medical treatment,” Yadav added.
