Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) has officially commenced its 2026 Senior Management and Technical Retreat in Ganta, Nimba County, setting the stage for renewed institutional focus and accelerated land governance reforms.
In his keynote address, Mr. Samuel F. Kpakio, Chairman of the LLA Board, highlighted the importance of the retreat as a timely platform to advance the Authority’s mandate under the government’s Arrest Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
“Our presence here over the next three days signals a shared commitment to our values, our objectives, and the mission of the Liberia Land Authority,” Chairman Kpakio remarked. “Our mandate is foundational not only to orderly development but also to peace, justice, economic growth, and social cohesion.”
Chairman Kpakio stressed that sustained government funding is vital to the Authority’s long-term success. He applauded the Sustainable Land Systems for Liberia (SLSL) Project for supporting the retreat and acknowledged the significant contributions of development partners to LLA’s institutional capacity and reform efforts.
However, he noted that increased government investment is essential for the Authority to fully deliver on its mandate, particularly amid financial constraints, personnel shortages, and ongoing reliance on donor funding.
“Land is not just an asset; it is identity, livelihood, heritage, and opportunity. How we govern land today will shape Liberia’s development trajectory for generations to come,” Kpakio added, assuring attendees of the board’s continued oversight and strategic direction.
LLA Project Director Madam Daniela Gray-Johnson described the retreat as an opportunity for honest reflection, strengthened oversight, and renewed institutional drive.
The opening day featured a ceremony, a presentation by Executive Director Mr. Stanley Toe, and sessions on institutional memory and departmental updates from Mr. Sylvester Bundoo, Director of Land Administration, and Mr. Tom-Wesley Korkpor, Director of Land Use and Management.
Local authorities, represented by Mr. Africanus Dolo from the Office of the City Mayor of Ganta, lauded the LLA for introducing a new deed system to enhance land administration in Liberia and called for decisive action on land disputes.
The retreat is expected to conclude with concrete resolutions and actionable points that will guide the LLA’s operations throughout 2026 and beyond, as the Authority works to strengthen land governance and promote sustainable development across Liberia.
