LNFS Seeks Government Support for Fire Stations in Liberia

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has announced plans to seek government support for the construction of fire stations in three high-risk regions across the country to improve emergency response.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), LNFS Director G. Warsuwah Barbour stated that fire incidents are challenging to control in remote areas due to the absence of fire service facilities, and that a timely response is crucial in tackling outbreaks.

Barbour disclosed that during the 2026 national budget hearing, the LNFS will request funding for new stations, beginning with Brewerville, Desville, and Marshall Tubman Community in Montserrado County.

He added that the service is also targeting Bong, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and parts of the southeast for future expansion.

“To respond effectively, we need structures in place,” Barbour said. “When fire outbreaks occur in those regions, having stations nearby will help us address them quickly.”

According to him, the LNFS has already assessed fire risks in three of the country’s five administrative regions, covering nine counties. The survey, he said, will help guide resource allocation once funding becomes available.

Barbour further revealed that the LNFS has received new equipment, including six fire trucks, two water tankers, two fire jeeps, and several motorbikes, which have been distributed to station commanders in the targeted regions.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that the LNFS has been engaging regional counterparts, including fire services in Ivory Coast, to share experiences and strengthen cooperation.
