Africa-Press – Liberia. Henry Cole has been officially inducted as the new superintendent of Maryland County, following his appointment to the position by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. The induction ceremony, which took place at the county administration building in Harper, was well attended by various community members, including women’s groups, religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth, civil society organizations, and students.

Superintendent Cole, along with his appointed officials, Fred Bartow, Stevenson Dweh, and Anthony N. Copper, were sworn in during the ceremony by Deputy Minister Selena Mappy from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Performing the induction rites, Mappy said Cole’s appointment was geared toward promoting President ARREST’s agenda of President Joseph N Boakai. As the chief lieutenant of the president in the county, the position of superintendent is a call to service, and as such, anyone who occupies the post should be able to listen to the concerns of the county’s citizens and not be a dictator.

Minister Mappy emphasized the importance of listening to the concerns of the county’s citizens, promoting unity, and maintaining peace within the community. She underscored the significance of participatory leadership and encouraged Superintendent Cole and his team to prioritize governance that puts the needs of the people first.

“Mr. Superintendent, the President has asked me to tell you that as superintendent of the county, you need to know that you are the servant of these people, not their boss,” the Deputy Minister said. “He also told me to also remind you and your co-officials that you should ensure that the peace of Maryland County is maintained and that you reconcile those that need to be reconciled because they’re also citizens to have speedy developments.”

She added, “Mr. Superintendent, please be aware that you can’t have functional leadership when the people you serve are not united. The Local Government Act has given huge responsibility to the local leaders of the counties, and such responsibility should be used wisely”, she cautioned.

In his address, Superintendent Cole expressed his vision for Maryland County, focusing on inclusive development that leverages the collective efforts of all citizens. He emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and citizen engagement in advancing the county’s educational system, addressing economic challenges, ensuring security, and improving healthcare services.

He also acknowledged the support of various stakeholders and committed to upholding President Boakai’s agenda and vision for a better Liberia. The induction of Superintendent Cole marks a new chapter for Maryland County, with a strong emphasis on community involvement, cooperation, and progress.

As the Superintendent sets out to fulfill his duties, the collective effort of all stakeholders will be crucial in driving positive change and sustainable development in the county.
