Africa-Press – Liberia. The Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), has suspended three key members of the party’s leadership for allegedly violating party principles and constitutional mandates. Some of those expelled from the party include K. Mathew Shan, National Vice Chair for Administration, Jeremiah S. Paye, National Deputy Secretary for Operation, and Patrick Karmo, Acting Montserrado County Chair.
Led by Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, former Foreign Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the party recently held an emergency session to address internal disruptions and leadership challenges within the party. Following the session on Saturday, May 18, the party decided to have those high-ranking members suspended.
Prince Mehn, MOVEE Nimba County Chairman, who spoke on behalf of the party, highlighted the committee’s condemnation of the actions of the expelled members and reiterated MOVEE’s support for its political leader, Kemayah.
He noted that the emergency session was called to address pressing administrative issues, conduct a post-election review, and implement critical leadership changes.
Mehn said that the National Executive Committee strongly condemned the actions of Shan, Paye, and Karmo for bringing the party to public disrepute.
It is reported that the men took the media and denigrated their political leader through false accusations.
“These individuals were found to violate party principles, values, and constitutional mandates. Specifically, Article XVIII Section 6(g) of the party’s constitution, which prohibits actions that could embarrass or discredit the party, was cited in their misconduct,” he added.
“We want to clarify that recent public statements and appearances by Shan, Paye, and others do not represent MOVEE’s official stance.”
MOVEE’s National Executive Committee affirmed its allegiance to the ideals of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and emphasized that recent public statements by the expelled members did not reflect MOVEE’s official stance.
“The NEC reaffirmed its steadfast support for Amb. Kemayah and the ideals of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), led by former President George Manneh Weah,” he said. “Shan, Paye, and Karmo were suspended indefinitely and are required to present themselves before a Special Investigation Committee (SIC) immediately.
In response to the internal disruptions, the NEC established a Special Investigation Committee to look into the conduct of the suspended individuals and present a report by May 25, 2024.
Acting appointments were made within the party leadership to maintain operational continuity and ensure effective communication with the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia.
Mehn was appointed Acting National Chairman, Aston Holder as Acting National Secretary General, and Jeffrey Siafa as Acting Montserrado County Chairman.
The party leadership has been mandated to formally communicate these resolutions to the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia within four working days from the final decision on May 25.
The actions taken by MOVEE, according to key insiders, demonstrate a commitment to upholding internal discipline and solidarity while navigating the complexities of Liberian politics.
The party’s decision to strengthen its alliance with the CDC and maintain unity within its ranks reflects its strategic approach to internal governance and political partnerships.
