Africa-Press – Liberia. The National Elections Commission begins training staff in using biometric voter registration kits.
The National Elections Commission embarks on a 15-day Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) handover knowledge Transfer Training for members of the Commission.
Speaking at a news conference over the weekend at the National Election Commission Headquarters on 9th Street in Sinkor, Monrovia, the Deputy Executive Director for Operations for the Project, Madam Emma Togba, said that in 2020, the NEC conducted Biometric Voter Registration to ProQuest 5,150 deviance.
She added that these BVR kits are helping to keep electric equipment constantly safe. She noted that to maintain electric equipment every 90 days, staff should take the equipment out of storage and discharge the batteries, after which they may recharge them and break the charge down, clean the equipment, and ensure that if anything is wrong, they solve the problem and park the equipment.
Madam Togba explained that the people who provided the training equipment still work with the Commission, adding that Richard Joseph and others from the company are working with them to ensure that the equipment is used properly.
According to her, the NEC will continue working with them, and their vendors will continue working with them so that the electric equipment will not spoil.
She further said that daily, they should clean at least a hundred plus kits and put them back in storage, adding that every single kit they touched had a record on it and was neat with specific ID numbers.
Madam Togba noted that she will allow her team to work with the Commission to see what the kits look like.
Training facilitator Richard Joseph said they call this process the maintenance cycle, adding that they do this between every 50 and 90 days, and the kits perform automatically at every period.
He said the materials will not just sit in the equipment room and get damaged, adding that they are making sure the materials are prepared nicely over the mechanic cycle.
Mr. Joseph further said they will complete a charging cycle every two or three months to make the batteries long-lasting and the kits’ performance active.
He mentioned that the commission might need to use the kits at any point, but they will always have access to them, and their function will remain 100%.
According to him, the NEC is working on 1,150 kits, and they believe they have completed 566 kits over the last five days. He notes that they are still running for the next 13 days to continue the entire process throughout the period.
Meanwhile, he said they are working with the commission staff to ensure a knowledge transfer, adding that they might not be in Liberia forever, so they want the NEC to participate in the training and acquiring knowledge process so that when they are not around, the commission staff will be able to take care of the kits.
He concluded that 40 people are participating in the ongoing 15-day Biometric Voter Registration (BVB) handover knowledge at the National Election Commission Headquarters on 9th Street in Sinkor.
