Africa-Press – Liberia. She reaffirmed Liberia’s role in regional organizations such as ECOWAS and the African Union, calling for united action on climate and development challenges across the continent.
Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, underscored the country’s commitment to climate diplomacy and regional cooperation during a visit by the Africa Study Tour of the Ghana Armed Forces Command.
Addressing the visiting delegation in Monrovia, Minister Nyanti highlighted the impacts of climate change already being felt in Liberia, including coastal erosion, declining crop yields, and changes in forest ecosystems. “Climate diplomacy is not something that will happen tomorrow. It is already here,” she stated.
Welcoming the group on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Liberian people, Nyanti linked Liberia’s environmental priorities to the government’s ARREST Agenda, which targets Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.
She reaffirmed Liberia’s role in regional organizations such as ECOWAS and the African Union, calling for united action on climate and development challenges across the continent. Nyanti also stressed the importance of managing Liberia’s natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
“How do we ensure climate justice? Those responsible must be held accountable, while those suffering the consequences must be supported,” she said, citing Liberia’s partnerships with the U.S., Germany, Sweden, Norway, and the EU on climate-smart initiatives.
The delegation, comprising over 25 senior officers and officials from Nigeria and Ghana, engaged in discussions on regional cooperation and sustainable development. Brigadier General B.B. Owusu, who led the group, commended Liberia’s leadership and echoed the importance of the visit’s theme: “Climate Change, Environment, and Development.”
The visit marked a reaffirmation of Liberia’s commitment to international diplomacy and its drive for inclusive and sustainable development.
