Africa-Press – Liberia. A team of foreign doctors is in the country providing free community mobile health services to residents in need of emergency or first-aid medical services in communities in Montserrado County. The doctors are in the country at the request of Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph. Mitchell Wire, the head of the team of doctors, said the team is in Liberia to provide treatment for sicknesses, including body pain, malaria, typhoid, and high blood pressure. This is the second week of the operation, and more than 2,000 patients have been treated. The doctors also brought in 10 40ft containers of medical supplies and equipment worth more than $5 million.

“Most of the people we treated have shown that Liberians have strong resilience because they work hard, and they don’t drink too much water; their bodies are dehydrated, so we educate a lot on the need to drink more water.” Mitchell Wyatt is the CEO of Corporate Aid, a non-profit US-based organization that is engaged in rallying doctors and support to come to Liberia and provide free medical services to people in dire need and make referrals for critical illnesses.

Speaking to FrontPageAfrica, Senator Saah Joseph said mobile community health services have been a normal practice carried out by his office. “We have done this for many years, and we have also supported hospitals with equipment. This is the first of many visits we expect from foreign doctors this year. We are expected to have four other visits after this, and they will be coming to provide different health services.

“I am excited that more than 300 people were treated today. I have never had the number of referral cases as compared to what I have seen in district four. These cases need major care, and some require surgical medical operations.”

On the sidelines, the senator is also connecting roads in communities in district four Montserrado County with one major bridge construction. The bridge, according to residents, has served as a major obstacle for them to commute freely during the rainy seasons, and such help will greatly relieve them.
