Africa-Press – Liberia. A high-level delegation from SomapaIT, led by Vice President for Global Government Engagement, Nigel Manns, arrived in Liberia this weekend as part of ongoing efforts to implement the country’s eBorder Solutions Project.
The visit underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Liberia in modernizing its border management systems, strengthening national security, and improving operational efficiency.
The eBorder Solutions Project is a major initiative aimed at transforming Liberia’s border operations through the integration of advanced digital technologies.
The system will enable real-time monitoring, data analytics, and secure processing of travelers and cargo.
By leveraging these tools, Liberia aims to reduce congestion at border points, prevent unauthorized entry, and improve decision-making based on reliable, data-driven insights.
During their visit, the SomapaIT delegation will hold a series of high-level meetings with key government agencies, including the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Transport, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority and the Liberia Airport Authority.
Discussions will cover project progress, technical challenges, policy alignment, and inter-agency coordination. Officials emphasized that these engagements are critical for identifying operational gaps, strengthening collaboration among agencies, and ensuring that project outcomes align with Liberia’s national security priorities.
A central focus of the visit is the Foundation Program, a pilot initiative designed to stabilize passenger services at Roberts International Airport (RIA).
Launched following a formal request from Commissioner General Elijah Rufus of the LIS and SomapaIT’s agreement to participate, the program aims to address operational bottlenecks, enhance passenger processing efficiency and improve overall service delivery.
Officials say the pilot could serve as a model for scaling improvements to other transportation hubs and border points across Liberia.
Beyond technology deployment, the eBorder Project emphasizes capacity building, staff training, and institutional strengthening to ensure sustainability.
Government representatives have highlighted that successful implementation will not only enhance operational efficiency but also build public trust in Liberia’s border management and airport services.
The project aligns Liberia with international standards in border security and management, facilitating smoother cross-border travel, supporting trade, and promoting national development objectives.
By automating surveillance, passenger registration, and processing, the initiative seeks to reduce human error, prevent fraud, and provide actionable insights for government decision-makers.
Officials expressed optimism that the visit will further strengthen collaboration between SomapaIT and Liberian authorities.
Discussions are expected to include lessons learned from similar projects in other countries, technology transfer opportunities, and strategies for long-term sustainability.
Stakeholders anticipate that the outcomes will influence future phases of the eBorder Solutions Project, including expanded digital services, integration with regional border systems, and enhanced security protocols.
In addition to operational and technical discussions, the delegation will explore ways to improve citizen-focused service delivery, such as reducing traveler wait times, streamlining customs and immigration procedures, and ensuring both staff and passengers benefit from a more efficient, secure and transparent system.
The collaboration reflects Liberia’s commitment to adopting global best practices while addressing local challenges unique to its border and aviation infrastructure.
The visit reinforces the ongoing partnership between the Government of Liberia(GoL) and SomapaIT, signaling a shared vision for modernized border operations, enhanced national security, and improved services for citizens and travelers alike.
Officials remain confident that continued collaboration will lead to measurable improvements in airport and border management, contributing to Liberia’s broader economic growth and regional connectivity goals.
