Africa-Press – Liberia. The University of Liberia and UNDP have partnered to launch Liberia’s first Master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence, AI.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the University of Liberia (UL) have signed a Standard Letter of Agreement (SLA), marking the beginning of a transformative partnership to advance innovation, technology, and strategic development in Liberia.
The landmark collaboration will introduce a Master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI), designed to equip students with cutting-edge digital skills. Additionally, the partnership will establish an Innovation Center at the UL’s Fendall Campus, expanding on the successful UNIPOD initiative to create a vibrant hub for creativity and technological advancement.
As part of the initiative, the 2025 Holiday Tech Camp will be launched to inspire and empower the next generation of tech leaders. Future camps are also planned to sustain momentum and broaden impact.
A five-year Strategic Plan and a comprehensive capacity enhancement needs assessment will be developed to strengthen UL’s faculty and student body in research, policy analysis, and innovation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan, expressed gratitude to UNDP, saying “This collaboration opens a new chapter for innovation and engagement at the University of Liberia. I want to thank UNDP for its commitment and for seeing this vision through.”
UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia, emphasized the broader significance of the partnership. “We are confident this initiative will make a significant impact—not only for the University of Liberia but for the country as a whole.”
Mrs. Weade Kobah Boley, UL’s Vice President for Institutional Development, reaffirmed the University’s dedication. “We will make this dream a reality.”
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing education and innovation in Liberia.
By fostering talent and enhancing research capacity, UNDP and UL aim to position Liberia as a competitive force in the global technology arena.
