Women of the Borough of New Kru Town Urged to Develop Their Communities

Africa-Press – Liberia. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, the founder of the Social Movement 4 Change has promised to work with women in the Borough of Kru Town and other communities to improve their living conditions.

Madam Nyanti is a former UN envoy. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced on 6 December 2021 the appointment of Madam Nyanti as his new Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Resident Coordinator in South Sudan. She has also held other positions at the UN.

At a stakeholders engagement in New Kru Town on May 3, 2023, Madam Nyanti told the women to not settle for the status quo during the election period.

“We can’t accept the way things are now, it not the way it should be we need to change the status quo and that will require team work,” Madam Nyanti said.

She added: “I’m being very honest with you, the people of this borough should not settle for hunger, inflation lack of education among others.”

Madam Nyanti Said her Social Movement 4 Change has been in existence for nine years and has partnered with community dwellers in the Borough of New Kru Town for the past two years.

She added that the Social Movement 4 Change will help Liberia gets on the right trajectory thereby changing the mindset and educating communities to take ownership and be a part of the development process of the country.

“We want women to used the power they have to seek the development, today is about engaging and women to work in collaboration,” she said.

According to Madam Nyanti, development is not restricted to the President but a well collective efforts that requires in uniting and putting aside differences for the growth of the country.

She encouraged young girls to focus on their education and compete for better and not the negative.

“Don’t accept the negative, lack of hunger isn’t your portion you deserve everything like the kids in the west,” she said.

Madam Georgia King Baryor on behalf of the Federation of Borough Women of Kru Town praised Madam Nyanti for organizing an engagement with the women of New Kru Town which is comprises of 26 communities.

According to Madam Baryor the women have a great task to perform and the key to that task she says is to advocate against the violence that is being perpetrated against women and girls within the borough.

She added: “We are excited to have you in our community. We are challenged in this district. We need microfinance loans and assistance.”

Madam furthers: “We hope that your visit here will put a smile on our faces and we’re hoping that your kind gesture will be decentralized across various communities within the borough she said.”
