Africa-Press – Malawi. Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has said he will defend the civil case in which Timothy Ntilosanje, boyfriend to the late Kotanna Chidyaonga, has sued the Malawi Police Service for malicious imprisonment and damage of reputation.

Ntilosanje wants K300 million from government as compensation. “When the case starts, it will reveal a lot of hidden truths,” Chakaka Nyirenda said According to court documents, businessperson Timothy Mtilosanje, who is alleged to have been the boyfriend to the late Chidyaonga, has sued the Malawi police Service for 34 days of false imprisonment.

Mtilosanje is also suing the police for irreparable damages caused, including damaged reputation for being branded as a murderer, among other things. “The arrest and prosecution lacked sufficient reasonable and probable cause since there was no evidence linking the claimant to the death,” the submission reads.

Losses outlined include loss of business, liberty and freedom of movement. Chidyaonga died in 2020 as she was unable to get help from hospital, allegedly due to acute scarcity of anti-venom drugs at Kamuzu Central Hospital. The High Court sitting in Lilongwe found the accused with no case to answer over the death.
