Africa-Press – Malawi. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers officials and sponsors held a private meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, last week to review the current contract amid extension plans, Times Sport has learnt.
Wanderers Legal Adviser and Company Secretary Chancy Gondwe and Public Relations and Media Liaison Clement Stambuli represented the team at the discussions.
Mukuru and Wanderers signed a year-long K175 million contract i n June but both parties have reportedly opted for early review in their quest to transform the team. Stambuli said it was a fruitful meeting, having discussed a number of issues concerning the current deal.
“We presented to them a number of things. As you are aware, we want to take the team to another level where players’ mindset must be focused on playing football as a career.
“This is the reason we have engaged a foreign technical director [Mark Harrison] and, as sponsors, they expressed delight with the way things have turned out at the club,” he said. Stambuli said they will hold a follow-up meeting soon.
“We will meet again for submission of some of our recommendations and, as sponsors, they will also meet. As you are aware, they are headquartered in Europe and they are trying to penetrate Asia aside from Africa and Europe. As a team, we believe we have massively helped market their brand here,” he said.
However, Mukuru Country Manager Charles Phiri neither confirmed nor denied the development but promised to respond later. “I saw your text and will revert shortly as I want to be at a quiet place. My network is bad because I am travelling,” he said.
