Africa-Press – Malawi. FANS IN FULL FORCE—Bullets supporter in replicasBlantyre-based giants Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have shipped in a new consignment of replicas to meet the high demand on the market, eager to generate more revenue through various means, Times Sport has learned.
However, both teams bemoaned the forex shortage, which they felt slows down the merchandise business.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi said there had been overwhelming support and a positive response from the team’s supporters.
“So far, we have sold approximately 90 percent of our replica jerseys, both the blue and white jersey and the golf shirts.
“The initial consignment consisted of close to 4,000 pieces, which has significantly contributed to the club’s merchandise revenue,” Ndovi said.
He hailed the Wanderers family for supporting the team’s commercialisation efforts through the purchase of branded merchandise.
“Another consignment of about 8,000 pieces has arrived to meet the increasing demand, especially as the team continues to perform well,” he said.
Nevertheless, Ndovi admitted that the team was facing slight problems due to the forex shortage.
“Regarding demand and supply challenges, as is common in our current economic environment, accessing forex can sometimes result in slight delays.
“Nevertheless, we have managed to navigate this through timely planning and support from our banking partners, allowing us to continue placing and receiving the orders with minimal disruptions,” he said.
On his part, Bullets Commercial Manager Kevin Moyo said the new stock would go on the market tomorrow, having had two deliveries before.
“We had the first one in December, another in February, and the third one arrived over the weekend,” Moyo said.
He, however, lamented the forex shortage, saying they were unable to meet their initial target on the market.
“So far, we have sold 2,590 jerseys from the entire delivery. There have been production glitches compounded by forex shortages as well. Otherwise, by now we should have sold 6,000 jerseys.
“The demand is so high in all our outlets, including FCB branches countrywide,” Moyo said.
